I remember this one from the original Gundam series, the Black Tri-Stars vs the RX-78-2. Maybe my memory's just rusty but when in that fight did the Guntank, the Core Fighter and the Guncannon join in?

Try watching Zeta Gundam and V Gundam for the most brutal scenes of mecha madness and character death.
Yep, Yoshiyuki Tomino really does deserve the nickname of "Kill em'all Tomino".
